An impacted tooth is a serious condition that can lead to pain, problems with other teeth, and even some types of disease. As such, it is important for you to know when you may be suffering from an impacted tooth. Here are some things you should look for if you're not sure whether this condition is something that you are experiencing or not.

Symptoms of an Impacted Tooth

Usually it will be very evident that something is wrong if you have an impacted tooth. If your gums are swollen and painful to the touch, especially if this is isolated to a specific part of your mouth, it may mean that there is an impacted tooth underneath that area.

In addition to pain and swelling, you may be experiencing unexplained headaches. While a headache may have many causes, it is not unusual for an impacted tooth to cause a headache. Likewise, if your jaw is aching in a certain area, it could be because you have an impacted tooth that is pressing against another tooth or the jawbone.

Other things that may indicate an impacted tooth include an unexplained bad taste when you are eating or persistent and unexplained bad breath. If your jaw feels stiff, or if you have some swelling in the lymph nodes in your neck, these things may be caused by an impacted tooth.
