Botox, when handled with skill and expertise is one of easiest ways to get a quick pick-me-up on your face. When used in the medical industry, the botulism toxin is known as Botox, an injectable treatment that can be used in a wide assortment of uses. We here at DFW Oral Surgeons use Botox in our office to restore youth in our patients, all but eliminating unwanted fine lines and wrinkles from your skin.
What Can Botox Do for Me?
A single vial of Botox is made up of three ingredients: a variation of the botulism toxin type A, human serum albumin, and sodium chloride (salt). When administered via injection to your face, Botox can effectively paralyze the muscles found there, preventing them from contracting or flexing. This not only relaxes your face, smoothing the appearance of existing fine lines and wrinkles but can also help prevent future wrinkles from forming.
Botox does not work immediately, contrary to popular belief. Instead, it can take up to 72 hours to become effective, though changes to your appearance may take up to five days after the procedure. It is also not a permanent solution to your cosmetic concerns and is, in fact, a temporary option when compared to more invasive and intensive cosmetic procedures. Instead, depending on your factors such as metabolism, Botox does start to wear off after three to six months.
One of the most popular places that our patients like to receive a Botox injection is in their frown lines. Also known as your glabellar lines, these lines are some of the first ones to show up on the face. Botox can soften your expression, not only taking years off your face but making you even seem nicer and less harsh. It is important to use a conservative approach when administering Botox to the frown lines, as excessive Botox can result in a “shocked” or frozen appearance.
Botox is also an effective solution for crow’s feet, the lines that appear around your eyes when you smile. While Botox is not considered painful at all, we may recommend a topical anesthetic before proceeding with the administration of Botox to your crow’s feet. Just like how we would approach your frown lines, we again advise a conservative approach to treat your crow’s feet. When you trust in the skilled technicians at our office, you can be confident that you will get a natural appearance that does not look or feel fake or frozen.
Botox is a fantastic option for many of our patients, helping them feel more youthful and confident once more. Botox can completely banish fine lines, wrinkles, frown lines, and crow’s feet with minimal downtime. Before starting treatment with Botox, it is important to let us know about your complete medical history to ensure that you are a good candidate for Botox.
